Our journey · 2015 – 2025

From one meal on a KL street to 300 families.

LIFE Malaysia began in 2015 with a few friends handing out food to people sleeping rough in Kuala Lumpur. Ten years on, we are a registered society running school programmes, flood and pandemic relief, youth sport and community projects across the Klang Valley. This is how we got here.

Then and now

Same heart. Far greater reach.

Ten years separate these two photos. The idea behind them has not changed: show up for people who need it, and bring others along.

How far we’ve come

Every entry below comes from our own programme records. Scroll down and watch the decade unfold, or jump to a chapter.

Chapter 1 · 2015 – 2016

Humble beginnings

It started with food. In mid-2015 a few friends packed meals and walked the streets of Kuala Lumpur after dark, handing them to people sleeping rough. They came back that November, and when floods hit Chennai in December they turned the same goodwill into a relief drive. By 2016 the group was taking Tamil school pupils on their first trip to the city and stepping in when families hit a crisis.

Chapter 2 · 2017 – 2018

Becoming official

In April 2017 the group registered with the Registrar of Societies as Persatuan Kebajikan Insan Penyayang Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor, keeping the name everyone already knew: LIFE Malaysia. The same year brought the idea that became our signature fundraiser, a charity futsal tournament, and with it a way to rally whole communities behind a school.

Chapter 3 · 2019

Growing reach and recognition

2019 was the year the work scaled up and people noticed. One programme now meant 100 students ready for school. Our chairman was honoured for social activism, the futsal tournament opened to women’s teams for the first time, and we planted trees with new partners.

Chapter 4 · 2020 – 2021

Standing with families through the pandemic

When COVID-19 closed the country, the needs at our doorstep changed overnight. We moved from events to emergency response: fresh food for PPR flats, groceries and bills for families who had lost their income, and, when flash floods hit Taman Sri Muda in December 2021, volunteers on the ground helping with rescue and relief.

Chapter 5 · 2022 – today

Building lasting change

Out of the emergency years came a clearer focus: help families stand on their own feet, and keep children learning. Entrepreneurship training for B40 households, sponsorship for university students, the Tree House Project and the largest festive drive in our history.

Five threads through ten years

What has stayed the same

The programmes changed with the times. These five commitments ran through all of them.

Community welfare

Street feeding, financial assistance, housing support, groceries and essential household aid.

Education and young people

Study tours, school supplies, Back2School, student sponsorship and futsal development.

Fundraising through sport

The charity car wash and our charity futsal tournaments, with women’s futsal added in 2019.

Relief and resilience

Chennai and Kerala flood relief, COVID-19 food assistance and flood rescue in Taman Sri Muda.

Community development

Entrepreneurship training, tree planting and the Tree House Project.

The next chapter is yours to write.

Every chapter so far was written by people who simply showed up. Volunteer, sponsor a student or give to a cause, and help us write the next ten years.
